This is a story. A story of two sisters, who looked after each other from the very start, and of a journey across the world - from the coastal town of Mombasa to the lush tropical shores of Sri Lanka.
It all started in 2017 when I was reminded about how precious life is.
My younger sister then only 44 years old was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Sadly we lost her later that year and my world became empty, she was my best friend the one I could rely on, she' d be there for me no matter what.
It was my sister who encouraged me to think about what I eat, what I use on my skin, how important life was and how things can change in a split second. Losing her was the toughest ordeal that I've had to deal with and you never get over it, you just learn to deal with the pain.
Zawadee was born from the love of coconut oil because this was the one ingredient my sister introduced me to 10 years ago and told me all about the great benefits of this superfood that can be used for skincare as well as your diet.
In 2017 we launched our award-winning organic coconut oil and got great feedback from everyone who used it. Our coconuts have been sourced from the magical island of Sri Lanka, where they are ethically farmed in a bio-diverse environment using the purest raw meat which is hand pressed to extract the oil.
But after having lost my sister during the later part of 2017, the business took a back seat and it wasn't until late 2018 that I decided to get back into it.
Zawadee is "gift" in Swahili, my roots are from Kenya it fitted well with the company ethos of treating life as a gift. The ultimate goal for Zawadee is to preserve the incredible gifts that mother nature has given us.
Zawadee is about the gift of life, protecting the natural environment and giving something back to those who are less fortunate than us. our ingredients are sourced from all over the world, where the natural climate, habitat and soil produce the best tasting ingredients.
